First case of heat stroke in Mexicali; a woman is reported to be in serious condition.

Mexicali, June 26.- A homeless woman is in critical condition at the General Hospital due to heat exhaustion, reported Health Secretary José Adrián Medina Amarillas.

He said this is the first case reported due to high temperatures in Mexicali. He explained that nearly 100 people have been treated for heat-related illnesses, but this is the first case of heat exhaustion.

The state official led the launch of the summer operation, which seeks to support the vulnerable population in 207 homes where water and IVs will be available.

He mentioned that they are seeking to reduce the number of deaths that occurred last year, which reached 25.

"We are going to strengthen information to reach the most vulnerable people and raise awareness of the dangers of high temperatures," he said.

The Baja California Health Minister said they have a supply of 250,000 IVs to serve the population. "That's the number we have; if necessary, we can purchase more IV packets," he indicated.
