GPT-5 will be used on iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26

Apple will use OpenAI's new GPT-5 artificial intelligence model on iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26 in the integration of ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence.

According to a 9to5Mac report on August 7, 2025, cited Monday, the software update is expected to be released next month. This means ChatGPT integration with Apple Intelligence could soon benefit from the new artificial intelligence model.

ChatGPT integration into Apple Intelligence on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and later visionOS 2 still uses OpenAI's GPT-4o model.

Using ChatGPT within Apple Intelligence is optional. If the user allows it, Apple Intelligence will offer three things.

First, use Siri to access ChatGPT to provide more in-depth answers, for example about photos or documents.

Second, use ChatGPT with Writing Tools to compose text or create images just from descriptions.

Third, use ChatGPT with Visual Intelligence and Camera Control to quickly learn more about places and objects around the user.

Apple includes privacy protections for users accessing ChatGPT through Apple Intelligence, including masking IP addresses and ensuring OpenAI does not store requests.

If a user decides to connect their OpenAI account with Apple Intelligence, OpenAI's data usage policies will apply.
