Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admitted he is uncomfortable with the size of his squad, saying it is overstretched, despite his team kicking off the 2025/26 Premier League season with a convincing 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
"There are too many players. I like a strong squad, but I don't want any players to be left at home. That's not healthy," Pep Guardiola was quoted as saying by ESPN in Jakarta on Sunday.
Manchester City dominated their Premier League opener of the season with a 4-0 victory over Wolves. Erling Haaland scored twice, while new signings Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki each contributed one.
Guardiola emphasized the importance of creating a healthy competitive atmosphere within the team. He stated that all players should feel they have the opportunity to play and contribute.
"The club has known about this since last season, but the situation remains as it is. Over the next two weeks, we will be speaking with the player and his agent to find a solution," he continued.
First-choice goalkeeper Ederson missed this match due to gastroenteritis. Despite speculation about his future amid interest from Galatasaray, Guardiola emphasized that Ederson's absence was not due to a transfer.
