Mexico City, December 24. In 2023, Alejandra Valencia had the best year of her sporting career. The archery team member made it to the podium at the Central American Games, the Pan American Games, World Cups, and the World Championships. Her efforts earned her a coveted National Sports Award and a nomination for best archer of the year , motivating her to begin the race toward Paris 2024 in February.
" I don't want to skip any steps because my participation isn't guaranteed yet. In February, the countdown begins with the final stages of determining the names of those who will represent Mexico in the Olympics, so we're taking it slow until we reach our main goal
," the Sonoran commented.
Although the national team has been achieving consistent results internationally for several years, it is not becoming overconfident.
" I can stumble, so it's best to stick to the straight and narrow. It's true that I won a lot of medals this year, but I'm always trying to improve. The most important thing for me is that people are happy with what I've achieved and that more and more people are drawn to my sport
."
"Anything is possible. What I achieved in Japan whetted my appetite to get back on the podium, and I've even thought it's not unreasonable to think about winning in the team, individual, and mixed categories. I have that dream at hand, but I don't want to get ahead of myself
," Valencia added.
She burst onto the archery scene with a bang. At just 17 years old, the Sonoran athlete won two gold medals (individual and team) at the 2011 Guadalajara Pan American Games and earned a ticket to her first Olympic Games, London 2012. She had already earned her first bronze at a World Cup.
It was just the beginning of a brilliant career in which he has climbed onto the podium in every major international competition.
