According to the newspaper, Israeli Air Force Commander Tomer Bar rejected Southern Command Commander Yaniv Asor's demands to expand the scope of airstrikes in Gaza during a security assessment session. The newspaper explained that the session witnessed shouting matches between the two sides, after Bar criticized the "lack of professionalism" in a number of attacks requested by the Southern Command over the past months, warning of the repercussions of carrying out ill-considered strikes.
During the session, which Asor participated in via videoconference from the command headquarters in Beersheba, he lashed out at the Air Force leadership, saying, "You in Tel Aviv are disconnected from the reality on the ground." This prompted Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir to intervene and calm the discussion, demanding that Asor refrain from using "unacceptable language."
The newspaper noted that Asor's offensive policy "resulted in the deaths of hundreds of uninvolved Palestinians," according to testimonies from officers who attended the session.
These disagreements come amid divergent views within the Israeli military and political echelons regarding the future of the war in Gaza. Chief of Staff Zamir recently expressed his opposition to expanding operations or moving toward a "full occupation of the Strip," asserting that the army had reached its maximum capacity and calling for a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange agreement.
