Hilary would hit BC as a hurricane, something never experienced before: Rosquillas

Tijuana, August 18. The meteorological phenomenon Hilary , which strengthened to a Category 2 hurricane on Thursday, could reach Tijuana as "a robust tropical storm," something the municipality has never experienced before, warned Antonio Rosquillas Navarro, former director of Civil Protection for the city and state, via his Facebook account.

He even warned that the U.S. Hurricane Center projects Hilary  "right over Tijuana" around midnight on Sunday, so it would also impact Tecate, Rosarito, and Ensenada, but before reaching this border, it would make landfall south of San Quintín as a Category 1 hurricane. According to the U.S. Meteorological Service forecast in San Diego, California, it would rain from Saturday through Monday.

"Things are getting tougher... well, according to the forecast, Hilary will hit the state's coast as a hurricane, and possibly continue northward and reach Tijuana as a robust tropical storm... That's very serious for us; we've never experienced a hurricane in those parts of the state, nor a tropical storm in Tijuana."

He shared forecasts from the U.S. Weather Service in San Diego, which issued a tropical storm warning for southern California Friday morning https://www.weather.gov/sgx/ .

According to the U.S. Weather Service in San Diego, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Saturday, with winds up to 10 mph (16 kilometers), and by tonight the chance is expected to rise to 60 percent, with rainfall up to a quarter of an inch.
