The Indonesian Shopping Center Retailers and Tenants Association supports the government's efforts to ensure public safety in shopping centers amid recent demonstrations.
HIPPINDO Chairman Budihardjo Iduansjah in Jakarta, Saturday, said they hope all parties can exercise restraint, prioritize safety and maintain public order.
"HIPPINDO supports the government's efforts to ensure public safety, including securing shopping centers and vital facilities, as well as ensuring the smooth distribution of logistics and essential goods. This is crucial to ensure uninterrupted public services," he said.
He said HIPPINDO asked the government to provide security at public activity centers, and to listen to the people's voices through constructive dialogue.
Moreover, HIPPINDO emphasizes the importance of maintaining the sustainability of the retail sector and its ecosystem, which involves millions of workers and their families, as well as all other sectors that support the nation's economy.
"With dialogue, togetherness, and concrete steps to maintain public calm, we can strengthen national unity while ensuring the economy continues to turn for the welfare of the Indonesian people," he added.
As is known, a number of student groups, including the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) and the University of Indonesia (UI) Student Executive Board (BEM) plan to hold a demonstration in front of the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Friday afternoon (29/8).
The demonstration was held following the death of an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver named Affan Kurniawan who was run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle (rantis) on Thursday (28/8) evening.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Indonesian National Police's Propam Division, Inspector General Abdul Karim, revealed early Friday that seven Brimob officers suspected of being involved in the armored vehicle incident were still under investigation.
