Historical art formation analyzed on the Tijuana-San Diego border

Tijuana, August 18. On Friday, August 15, academic Laura Díaz presented her research project titled "Border Art. The Historical Formation of Tijuana-San Diego Border Art" in the Federico Campbell Room of the Tijuana Cultural Center (Cecut), as part of the exhibition "Transients of the Imaginary."

Díaz is pursuing a master's degree in History at the Institute of Historical Research at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC). Her project focuses on the relationship that has developed between Mexico and the United States , specifically along the Tijuana-San Diego border, and how an entire art movement has emerged in this area.

The researcher and writer was accompanied by researcher Alexa Macías as moderator. Together, they began the talk by dividing it into three parts to explain the political, institutional, and global context of the project.

Throughout the talk, Díaz showcased a compilation of Tijuana art spanning 40 years, primarily undertaken by the Chicano community and represented in graffiti, clothing styles, and murals.

Finally, Díaz invited those present to "think and maintain active or awake curiosity about what has happened in Tijuana, on the border, in the art that has been made here, and to continue building what we are, which is always in the process of being built."
