Ensenada, December 1.- The Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) paid posthumous tribute to José Abraham Gómez Gutiérrez and named Production Laboratory 1 in Building 47 of the Faculty of Enology and Gastronomy (FEG) on the Ensenada Campus after him.
Professor Gómez Gutiérrez joined UABC in 1989 as head of the Student Welfare Department at the Ensenada Campus and began teaching in 1999.
In 2005, along with other teachers and industry representatives, he was tasked with creating the Bachelor's Degree in Gastronomy. This curriculum was developed in response to Ensenada's vocation and with the goal of creating a school to professionalize and improve service in the local food and beverage businesses. This resulted in the creation of the School of Enology and Gastronomy in 2006, of which he served as director.
He sought support so that students and faculty members of the new degree program could work in alternative kitchens to carry out culinary practices. He also received a grant from the Baja California Winegrowers Association to hold the Ensenada Tierra del Vino International Competition, which is now known as the Mexico International Wine Competition.
Professor Gómez Gutiérrez sought out alternative ways to connect and create learning spaces for students and teachers. He shared his experiences and knowledge by teaching countless runaway students until his retirement in 2017.
