Indonesia is the overall champion of the BPK Penabur Schools Chess Competition

The Indonesian Chess Team became the overall champion of the BPK Penabur Schools Asian Zone 3.3 Schools Chess Competition 2025 which took place at BPK Penabur International School.

In the tournament attended by 251 participants from Russia, Hong Kong, Japan, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Mongolia, Malaysia, and the host Indonesia, the Red and White team won the championship title after winning a total of seven gold medals.

This tournament features standard (classical) chess players KU-7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 men and women using the Swiss seven-round match system.

"We are pleased that the three-day championship went well and smoothly. Participants were highly enthusiastic, despite the current dynamics in Jakarta," said Adri Lazuardi, Chairman of the BPK Penabur Foundation, in an official statement.

Adri said that the tournament, which will be held every two years, will also compete for one of the norm titles.

This matter has also been discussed with the Executive Board of the Indonesian Chess Association (PB Percasi) regarding the possibility of this tournament being able to provide norm prizes to chess players.

"Yes, we've discussed (a tournament format with titles), but not in depth. But hopefully, it can happen because our relationship with PB Percasi is very good," said Ardi.
