Indonesia is ready to host the inaugural APGC Mid-Amateur Championship, which will be held at the Gading Raya Golf Club in Tangerang, Banten, on August 12–14, 2025.
This tournament was initiated by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) and will feature mid-amateur golfers from the Asia-Pacific region.
"This special opportunity is expected to make Indonesia a benchmark for mid-amateur competitions in the Asia-Pacific. We hope not only to be successful as organizers, but also to win the championship," said Suharsono, Secretary General of the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI), and Committee Chair, at a press conference in Tangerang on Friday.
This championship feels special because it takes place in the month of the 80th anniversary of Indonesian Independence.
It is hoped that this will spur the motivation of Indonesian golfers to emerge as champions.
APGC chose Indonesia because it is considered committed to the development of mid-amateur golf.
Since 2023, Amateur Golfers Indonesia (AGI) has regularly held the Mid-Amateur Series to improve the performance of national golfers. Indonesia receives a quota of 45 golfers selected based on AGI Amateur Series results, while international participants are determined by the APGC using their handicap index and recommendations from their respective national golf associations.
"We have prepared golfers to become accustomed to official competitions, not just fun golf tournaments," said AGI Chairman Djonnie Rahmat.
The tournament will use a 54-hole stroke play format with four age divisions: 25–29 years, 30–37 years, 38–46 years, and 47 years and over.
Each division is limited to a maximum of 30 participants. This year's edition is for men only, but a women's division is planned for future editions.
To date, participants have registered from Japan, India, Myanmar, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Brunei, and Guam.
Gading Raya Golf Club was chosen because of its experience in hosting national and international championships, including the 2017 SEA Amateur Team.
This course, designed by designer Graham Marsh, is known for its challenging nature and easy access from and its surrounding buffer zones.
