Indonesian activists join global flotilla to break through Israel's blockade on Gaza

A number of Indonesian activists through Sumud Nusantara who joined the Global Sumud Flotilla are ready to head to Gaza to break the blockade imposed by Zionist Israel.

"Indonesia, along with 43 other countries, with around 70 ships will depart for Gaza to break the Zionist blockade at the end of August," said Aqsa Working Group (AWG) Presidium Rifa Berliana Arifin at the Sumud Flotilla Nusantara Sail to Gaza Global Press Conference held in Jakarta, Friday.

Rifa said that several Indonesian NGOs have committed to participating in this movement, including AWG and the International Networking for Humanitarian Affairs (INH).

"There are also other NGOs that are committed, even though they are not sending people, but are still contributing to this Global Sumud Flotilla," he said.

Previously, in early August, Rifa attended a week-long Global Sumud Flotilla meeting in Tunisia. The meeting discussed the background to the Global Sumud Flotilla's founding, preparations for the Gaza trip, and the technical aspects of its implementation.

The reason for choosing the sea route, said Rifa, is because this alternative is the most likely route to penetrate Gaza, which is currently still facing a Zionist blockade.

"The only route that is still possible under international law, logistically, and in terms of power is by sea. Air and land routes are no longer possible, especially since the Rafah and Jordanian borders are heavily guarded and under Zionist authority," he said.

INH representative, Muhammad Husein, said that around 1,400 people from 44 countries would participate in the humanitarian fleet.
