It was a mix-up," say vendors at the SY gate after an attempted lynching

Tijuana, June 11 – Impunity and taking justice into one's own hands prevail at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. This was demonstrated on June 6, when a motorist was beaten and nearly lynched by street vendors on the international route.

Authorities from the Tijuana Department of Security and Citizen Protection reported that the driver was traveling with a woman and a child in a Buick with California license plate 8LIB150. He was fleeing from the police and speeding, entering the lanes of the San Ysidro border crossing. According to police reports, he damaged street vendors and struck a person.

Ignacio Pérez López, president of the Fundadores del Triunfo del Pueblo vendors, said it was a case of confusion, as no one was hit by a car. He added that the driver was speeding, hitting some street vendors.

"It was a very serious, very unfortunate mix-up, because it was a person who was fleeing with the police in tow and was driving his car into the merchants, and at that moment, it was reported that he had just hit a child. The child was in serious condition and was turning around," he said.
