Tijuana, July 24. For the first time in Mexico, the exhibition David Cerny: Rebellion , featuring works by the visual creative, controversial and rebellious artist, will be on display in Room 2 of El Cubo at the Tijuana Cultural Center (Cecut), an institution of the federal Ministry of Culture, beginning with its inauguration next Saturday, July 29, and continuing through January 2024.
Cerny first attracted attention in 1991 when he painted a Russian tank, which served as a war memorial in central Prague, bright pink. In his hometown alone, he has created 14 installations in public spaces , which have become major attractions that challenge the artistic notions of viewers in the various countries where he has exhibited them.
Cerny’s art is thought-provoking by evoking emotions in its viewers , his reputation as a contemporary artist for sparking debate is not limited to his hometown as some of his permanent installations include; “Lynch” in Los Angeles, USA, “Falcons” in Doha, Qatar, “Beetle” in Prague, Czech Republic, “Quo Vadis” in Berlin, Germany, “Thinker” in St. Moritz, Switzerland, “Golem” in Poznan, Poland, “Three Babies” in Australia, among others around the globe.
