Local consumer flight expected due to border reopening

Tijuana, November 9.- The opening of the border to non-essential crossings will affect the city's commerce as there will be a flight of consumers to the United States, according to Julián Palombo Saucedo, president of the Tijuana Tourist Merchants Association .

He explained that with the reopening, losses of approximately 15 percent of sales to local customers are expected.

"We're currently at a 55 to 60 percent recovery from the sales collapse caused by the start of the pandemic in 2020," said Palombo Saucedo.

The fact that Mexican citizens with tourist visas can once again cross into the United States represents a loss of approximately 15 to 20 percent in economic losses, explained the president of the Tijuana Tourist Merchants Association.
