The Bali Provincial Office of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) educates students about the importance of tax benefits for national and state development.
"We want all parties in the education sector to know and understand the benefits of taxes," said Bali Tax Directorate Head Darmawan during an educational event in Denpasar, Bali, on Friday.
He mobilized all tax service office units on the Island of the Gods to hold a Tax Speaking education program attended by hundreds of students from several schools and universities.
The educational units are Petang 1 Elementary School, Badung, Bunutin 1 Elementary School, Bangli, Kesiman 11 Elementary School, Denpasar, Dauh Puri 5 Elementary School, Denpasar, Negara 3 High School, Jembrana, and Bali Global Jimbaran IT Vocational School, Badung.
Then, SMPN 16 Denpasar, SMPN 6 Tejakula, Buleleng, and IKIP Saraswati Tabanan.
According to him, understanding of taxes cannot be formed instantly, but rather through a continuous learning process.
The younger generation, he said, needs to be introduced to the fact that taxes are not only an obligation, but also a form of mutual cooperation between all people to support national development.
"Taxes are the obligation of every citizen, because it is a contract every citizen has if they have fulfilled the requirements as a taxpayer," he said.
The educational material provided is packaged with a simple understanding so that it is easy for students to understand, for example regarding the state budget (APBN), which is likened to income stored in a wallet and expenses are likened to shopping needs.
Taxes are used for a number of needs, one of which is the government providing IDR 724.3 trillion or 20 percent of the fund for education in the 2025 State Budget.
The education sector is used to finance the Smart Indonesia program, the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) for College, teacher professional allowances, school operational assistance (BOS), scholarships from the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP), research funding, and the revitalization of educational facilities through the Physical Special Allocation Fund (DAK).
