Mexico City, January 26.—We will facilitate procedures for Banamex's operations. "It matters to us, it interests us. We must ensure there are no blockages, no delaying tactics, and if necessary, we will request the intervention of the Judiciary," stated President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
In his press conference, he recalled that the company Oceanografía , owned by Amado Yáñez, was an example of the extravagances of those in power, having received 160 contracts through direct bidding from the governments of Vicente Fox and Felipe Calderón, which earned him 3 billion pesos, and the owner of that company gave away high-end watches, costing one million dollars.
Last week, it was learned that the 71st Ordinary Civil Court in Mexico City granted precautionary measures to Oceanografía, which is in an ongoing dispute with Citibanamex, to prevent the sale of the bank before a resolution to the dispute between the two firms is reached.
Let it become Mexicanized
The Tabasco native insisted that the sale of Banamex is very important to him for several reasons. He said, "I would like it to be Mexicanized, for the majority shareholders to be Mexican; for them to be financially solvent; for them to have no tax debts with the SAT; for them to pay their taxes; and for Banamex 's cultural and artistic funds to be for the enjoyment and benefit of Mexicans. We don't want these funds to go abroad."
