Manchester United supporters group The 1958 has cancelled a protest against the club's ownership that was scheduled to take place during the Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 17.
Quoting from ESPN in Jakarta, Tuesday, the cancellation of the protest plan came after an internal survey showed fans were divided on Sir Jim Ratcliffe's role.
The action plan was initially intended to voice discontent with the direction of the club under Ratcliffe's operational control and his involvement with the Glazer family, the majority shareholders who have long been the target of fan criticism.
However, the results of a poll of nearly 26,000 respondents actually show the complexity of views within the supporter body.
“With a fan base as diverse and passionate as ours, finding the right balance isn’t always easy,” The 1958 wrote in a statement on X’s social media accounts.
According to The 1958 group, 63 percent of respondents said Ratcliffe and his company Ineos should be held accountable for decisions made since taking over the club's operations in February 2024.
