Enforcement (ICE) yesterday deported two Mexican firefighters who were working as private contractors to extinguish the Bear Gulch Fire in Mason County, Washington.
“We risk our lives to save the community. And this is how we're treated,” one of the firefighters told The Seattle Times .
The measure was implemented in compliance with the federal government's immigration policy, within the framework of the guidelines promoted during the Donald Trump administration, Infobae reported.
Federal agents held a team of contractors fighting the blaze in a 3,600-acre area in Washington state for several hours on Wednesday.
“Several discrepancies were identified, and two individuals were found to be present in the United States illegally, one with a prior removal order,” Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a statement Thursday.
CBP said Border Patrol agents were there at the request of rangers who wanted to verify that the names on the contractors' records were accurate.
