Mexico City, August 3.- Groups of workers from two unions took over the Senate this morning , preventing access to legislators, officials, and employees.
At around 6:00 a.m. this Tuesday, representatives of the minority unions Independent of Senate Workers and National of Senate Workers, supported by individuals outside of these organizations, closed the entrance doors to the building. These unions have 32 and 17 members each.
Following the closure, administrative authorities assured that they have always maintained a policy of dialogue with union representatives to find a solution to their demands. Bertha Orozco, leader of the Senate Workers' Union, confirmed their support.
New benefits recognized
"We've seen Senator Monreal's activity. In this case, he began supporting the people of FONATUR, in this case, the people who are receiving benefits they've never had before. Today they have social security, today they have vouchers. Welcome to the colleagues who currently have these benefits and didn't have them before," he noted.
