Mexico City, July 4. The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) justified its ministers' wages above the President's and reiterated that their salaries cannot be reduced by decisions made by other branches of the Union.

The Supreme Court responded to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's request, via the Ministry of the Interior, to explain why they are not complying with Article 127 of the Constitution, which establishes that no official may exceed the salaries of the head of the Executive Branch.

In the petition signed by the head of the department, Luisa María Alcalde Luján – in one of her first acts after taking office – she states that the question is based on Article 27 of the Organic Law of the Federal Public Administration, to which the Court responded that this rule is only binding on agencies and entities that depend on the Executive , not on other branches.
