New police chief appointed in San Felipe; he's a sailor

Mexicali, September 29. The San Felipe Founding Municipal Council appointed Captain Andrés Bonilla Castro as the new chief of the San Felipe municipal police, replacing Ramón Valdez, who resigned a week after the murder of two police officers.

In a statement posted on the organization's Facebook page, Council President José Luis Dagnino López announced that the appointment was made as part of a coordinated effort between authorities from all three levels of government, "who seek to maintain the peace and security of families in San Felipe."

On September 20, gunmen gunned down the deputy director and commander of the corporation, Erik Aguilera and Norberto Ornelas Nava, respectively, while Ramón Valdez managed to escape because he had returned to the home they were occupying . The attackers fled on foot while abandoning an arsenal.

Regarding the new head of public security in San Felipe, the Council President emphasized, "He has performed with professionalism, institutional loyalty, and honesty in the performance of his duties, within the positions he has held in the country's armed forces."

He mentioned that Andrés Bonilla Castro "has extensive experience spanning more than 20 years in the Mexican Navy and has received multiple recognitions and awards throughout his career for his achievements in reducing violence rates in the country."
