PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir said the North Sumatra Main Stadium in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, has the potential to become the new home of the Indonesian national team after he witnessed the enthusiasm of the spectators who filled the stadium during the 2025 Independence Cup.
In the tournament, which was attended by four contestants for the 2025 U-17 World Cup, namely Indonesia, Mali, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, Erick said the enthusiasm of the audience was extraordinary.
"Of course, PSSI is proud and optimistic that North Sumatra can also host the national team," Erick said on his Instagram account on Tuesday.
In the three matches played by Indonesia, a total of more than 56 thousand spectators watched the Garuda Muda matches.
The highest number of spectators occurred in the last match when Indonesia lost 1-2 to Mali on Monday, namely 21,991 spectators.
