This came in a statement issued by the movement on Thursday, on the first anniversary of Haniyeh's martyrdom.
The movement's statement reviewed Haniyeh's career, which began with Hamas's founding in 1987, and his rise through the ranks of leadership until he became head of the political bureau. It also highlighted his role in confronting the siege and repeated wars on Gaza, and his contributions to strengthening the Palestinian cause's presence at the Arab and international levels.
The statement also referred to his "melodious voice in reciting the Quran" and his decisive political positions, noting his famous phrase: "The fortresses will not fall, the strongholds will not be breached, and we will not recognize Israel."
The movement concluded its statement by affirming its commitment to "following the path of martyr Haniyeh" and its commitment to "jihad until victory or martyrdom."
Haniyeh was martyred at dawn on July 31, 2024, following an Israeli airstrike targeting his temporary residence in the Iranian capital, Tehran. Israel later confirmed the involvement of Mossad and the Aman unit in the operation.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
The genocide left more than 206,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons and a famine that claimed the lives of many.
