Mexicali, February 10.- Óscar Vega Marín, a council member on the Mexicali City Council and former National Action Party (PAN) candidate for state government, did not resign from the party; he preempted his expulsion, said Emanuel Mendoza Gómez, a municipal leader in Mexicali.
Shortly after Vega himself announced his departure, which he notified to state leader Mario Osuna Jiménez, Mendoza stated that proceedings had been initiated against him for "serious and repeated disciplinary conduct."
Here is the statement issued by the municipal leadership of the PAN in Mexicali:
"It's important to mention that Councilman Oscar Vega was already facing expulsion proceedings within the municipal steering committee due to serious and repeated disciplinary conduct involving his failure to comply with two previous councilman agreements. One of these was the issue of voting in favor of the revenue law, and the most recent was one requiring PAN council members to submit to the Treasury their waiver of the increase in the advisory allowance.
"The first agreement significantly affected the pockets of Mexicali residents due to the increase in property taxes. This fact was enough for your servant, as party president, to decide to remove him from the position of councilor coordinator. It was at that moment that he was told he had to comply with the party's internal regulations, which stipulate that decisions must be made by a majority of councilors.
