The State Government reestablishes the contract with Sumex for the supply of electricity to the aqueduct.

Mexicali, March 25 – Sumex has returned as the electricity provider for the operation of the Mexicali-Zona Costa Aqueduct, replacing the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), which represented a high cost in kilowatts.

The state-owned company billed 3 pesos per kw/h, approximately 150 million pesos per month.

The Sumex company, which already had a contract during Francisco Kiko Vega's administration, will charge 1.38 pesos per kWh. The estimated savings for the State Government will be approximately 50 million pesos per month.

In 2019, Sumex obtained a multi-year contract with the state government for 15 years; however, the Jaime Bonilla Valdez administration canceled the contract, citing corruption issues, and decided that the company Orca would supply energy to the aqueduct.

However, payments were also stopped and the state-owned company cut off the supply until the Executive paid a portion of the debt .

Within this framework, the photovoltaic project was created to supply energy to the aqueduct; however, the photovoltaic plant is currently halted due to alleged mismanagement and the structuring of the contract , which puts state finances at risk.

State government sources say negotiations were reached with Sumex, given that they were engaged in litigation against the cancellation of the contract during the previous administration.
