Hidden dangers of apple cider vinegar

A recent study published in the journal BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health found that drinking apple cider vinegar daily reduces body mass index and weight, but experts warn of 3 potential health risks that must be taken into consideration.
Below are these risks:

- Tooth damage

Apple cider vinegar contains malic and acetic acids, with an average pH between 2.5 and 3.0, which may weaken tooth enamel, according to Elmsleigh House Dental.

The clinic explained: “Weak enamel increases your exposure to tooth decay, and can increase tooth sensitivity. People who drink an excessive amount of undiluted apple cider vinegar may suffer from swelling or burning inside the mouth.”

A previous disturbing medical case study reported that a 15-year-old girl suffered from tooth decay due to drinking 237 ml of undiluted apple cider vinegar daily.

So, always make sure to dilute the vinegar properly to protect your teeth. It is also recommended to avoid using vinegar as a mouthwash.

- Skin and throat damage

Aside from the damage it may cause to your teeth, vinegar can also be harmful to your skin and throat.

A study published in the Journal of Clinical and Cosmetic Dermatology found that apple cider vinegar caused a girl to suffer a chemical burn after using it as a “treatment” to remove unwanted “moles.”

The acetic acid found in vinegar is rumored to cause throat burns, according to Healthline.

- Indigestion and discomfort

WebMD revealed that some people may experience indigestion or nausea after consuming apple cider vinegar. Therefore, it is recommended not to drink it on an empty stomach, and to stop taking it if you feel nausea or vomiting.

Medical News Today also warns that vinegar may cause diarrhea and destroy some types of bacteria present in the intestines that are beneficial to the digestive process.
