The same poll, published Wednesday, indicated that 65% of respondents believe the United States should take urgent action to help the people of Gaza facing hunger, while only 28% oppose this.
Fifty-nine percent of Americans also considered the Israeli military response to Gaza to be exaggerated, compared to 53% who said the same in a similar poll conducted in February 2024.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online and collected responses from 4,446 American adults nationwide. The margin of error was about 2 percentage points.
The six-day poll, which concluded on Monday, came as three US allies—Canada, Britain, and France—announced their intention to recognize the State of Palestine, increasing pressure on Israel amid a worsening hunger crisis in the Gaza Strip.
