Psychologist Novi Poespita Candra from Gadjah Mada University emphasized the important role of families in protecting teenagers from the dangers of drug abuse.
He said that teenagers who are facing an identity crisis are usually more vulnerable to being tempted to abuse drugs.
"Typically, teenagers who are influenced by drug use are those who are experiencing a self-crisis, don't know how to find their true identity, and are weak in thinking about consequences," said Novi Poespita Candra, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D. when contacted by ANTARA from Jakarta, Tuesday.
Therefore, he said, the family should be the safest place for teenagers who are trying to find their identity.
"Family and adults should be the safest place for teenagers to find their true selves," Novi said.
"The role of the home as a safe place to return to is very important amidst the noisy environment that influences teenagers," he said.
