Rains strengthen more than 375 thousand hectares of seasonal crops in Chihuahua

Ciudad Juárez, July 6.- The Ministry of Rural Development (SDR) reported that the intense rains recorded in recent weeks in the state of Chihuahua have strengthened the countryside, particularly the more than 375,000 hectares of seasonal crops such as corn, beans, oats, and sorghum.

Rogelio Olvera Bueno, head of the state agency's Agriculture Department, explained that these crops are essential for food security and the rural economy, as they represent an important part of the summer agricultural cycle.

“Corn is typically planted between April and May, taking advantage of residual winter moisture, while beans, oats, and sorghum depend directly on rainfall for their establishment.”

He added that, in the case of forage oats, a key crop for supplementing the livestock sector, the planted area is estimated to reach nearly 250,000 hectares in the state.
