Tijuana, November 13.- Called by opposition parties and local religious groups, about a thousand protesters gathered at the Cuauhtémoc monument to express their rejection of the electoral reform proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
"The President must respect the INE, and keep his hands off it. He's in office thanks to the INE," said some of the participants at the rally, during which banners bearing the slogan "Don't touch the INE" were seen, along with banners depicting the Virgin of Guadalupe and some nuns in their habits.
"I'm not a cretin, nor an aspirationist, nor a hypocrite, nor a snob, I'm Mexican," and "God Save Mexico" were some of the slogans used by protesters in Tijuana, who oppose López Obrador's proposal that INE councilors and Electoral Tribunal judges be elected by citizens and not by political parties, in addition to reducing the amount of party funding, among other reforms.
