Rickettsia outbreak in Tijuana's Azteca neighborhood

Tijuana, July 24.- In the Azteca neighborhood in the east of the city, insects that transmit this disease have been detected in some schools and homes, the municipal health department reported.

Municipal Health Director Demetrio Landeros explained that since the first cases were detected, the department has conducted a campaign to eradicate fleas and ticks found in the neighborhood because this is the second year a rickettsia outbreak has occurred in the area.

Last year, cases also occurred in the Ojo de Agua neighborhood, also located in the eastern part of the city.

According to the Baja California Health Secretariat, 17 people have died from rickettsia so far this year, eight of which are in Tijuana.
