Serie A players agree to take pay cuts if the team is relegated

The Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) and Serie A have signed a new collective agreement that stipulates an automatic 25 percent pay cut for players if their team is relegated to Serie B.

The agreement announced will be valid for five years and aims to maintain the financial stability of Serie A clubs.

According to reports by The Straits Times and OneFootball, the rule will apply to all contracts signed after September 2, 2025, the closing date of the summer transfer window.

The salary reduction takes effect automatically from the following season after relegation, unless a specific clause in the player's contract states otherwise. Contracts existing before that date remain subject to their original terms.
