The city of Hamilton in Ontario, Canada, has honored NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander by naming a street in his hometown after him, in recognition of his achievements in leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to the 2025 NBA championship.
Quoting ESPN, the announcement was made directly by Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath at a lively open event at Hamilton Stadium, Thursday (7/8) local time.
In addition to naming the street, Horwath also presented the NBA MVP with a symbolic award in the form of a key to the city.
“Throughout my life, when I’ve traveled to different countries and cities around the world, people have always asked me where I’m from,” Gilgeous-Alexander told thousands of people packed into the north zone of the stadium, holding up the NBA championship trophy.
“I've always been proud to say I'm from Hamilton.”
