Former UFC champion Oliveira vs. Fiziev in the main event of UFC Rio

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Charles Oliveira will face Rafael Fiziev in the main event of the UFC Rio event at the Farmasi Arena, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on October 11.

"Thank you to (UFC officials) Dana White, Hunter, and Sean Sealby for accepting my request (to fight as the main event at UFC Rio)," said Charles Oliveira in a video uploaded to his social media, which was monitored in Jakarta on Friday.

Oliveira will be fighting in his home country for the first time since March 2020, when he defeated Kevin Lee in a Fight Night main event.

The fighter nicknamed "Do Bronx" had a chance to reclaim the lightweight title in June at UFC 317 when he fought Ilia Topuria for the vacant belt, but he was knocked out in the opening round by the undefeated Topuria.

Oliveira, who has a record of 35 wins, 11 losses and one no-contest, has alternated wins and losses in his last six fights.

Now, he is ready to prove his determination to win back the title when he fights in front of the home crowd.
