Shortest Path Bridging (SPB) technology is gaining traction as a solution to improve digital network reliability, as it is considered capable of maintaining service availability with virtually zero downtime, while simultaneously reducing companies' operational costs.
According to a press release on Wednesday, one of the providers of SPB technology is Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise. SPB works by simplifying the flow of data traffic within a network. This mechanism allows data to automatically find the fastest path, resulting in more stable, faster information transfer and less disruption if there is a failure at one of the network nodes.
In practice, SPB is capable of restoring the network in less than a second when an outage occurs. This is crucial for digital services that require high availability, such as cloud-based services, the internet of things (IoT), and 5G connections.
