The Attorney General's Office (FGR) has taken up the case of a girl who died crushed in an elevator at the IMSS in QR.

The Attorney General's Office (FGR) has taken over the investigation into the case of Aitana, a 6-year-old girl who died on Monday in an elevator at the General Hospital of Zone Number 18 of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.

Acting Prosecutor Raciel López Salazar explained that this is because it is a decentralized federal agency.

He stated that this autonomous body will cooperate at all times with the Attorney General's Office (FGR) to clarify the facts.

He added that after a technical and legal analysis of this investigation file, it was determined that, in accordance with Article 5 of the Social Security Law and applicable federal laws, this is a federal crime.

We will cooperate with federal authorities in every way necessary to ensure that the investigations move forward and that the person or persons responsible for this unfortunate incident are punished in accordance with the law," said López Salazar.

The elevator concession is also federal.

He explained that, in addition to the IMSS being a decentralized agency, the concession for elevator maintenance services is federal in nature, so the Attorney General's Office will continue to handle the case.

On the night of July 10, 6-year-old Aitana died in the hospital after the elevator she was being transported in malfunctioned.
