The drop in complaints filed by the ASF weakens the anti-corruption fight.

Mexico City, July 9.- In recent years, the Federal Audit Office (ASF) has seen a downward trend in reporting incidents to the competent authorities, which restricts its ability to combat corruption, according to the entity responsible for overseeing its performance.

From 2018 to September 2022, the ASF filed 46 criminal and administrative complaints, representing just 4 percent of the 1,138 it has filed since 1998, according to the most recent analysis by the Evaluation and Control Unit (UEC), the Chamber of Deputies body that oversees the ASF.

Furthermore, the ASF has had poor results in its complaints, obtaining favorable rulings in less than 1.5 percent of the total cases and recovering less than 1 percent of the funds involved in the reported irregularities for the State.

According to the UEC report, the ASF has not presented the technical studies, reasons, or structural elements present in public management "that cause the progressively downward trend" in the filing of complaints.
