The Marina del Pilar government performs 1,000 cataract surgeries free of charge for seniors.

Tijuana, July 15.- As part of a series of actions to allocate resources to improve the lives of all older adults in Baja California, Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda led a Cataract Detection Day and Senior Health Services Fair, in which she highlighted that as part of the Ministry of Health's program, 1,000 cataract correction surgeries have been performed this year, completely free of charge, and the outlook is to end the year with at least 1,500.

In her message to those present and to the Baja California community, Governor Marina del Pilar highlighted the ongoing coordination with the Mexican government and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to serve the entire population, especially older adults.

The state leader highlighted the impact mobile units have in bringing healthcare to the entire Baja California region, with particular emphasis on areas relatively remote from healthcare infrastructure.

Caravans

"With these caravans, we reach the entire Baja California region, to every corner of the state, to reach those who need it most, and with it, the waterfall program," he said.

"You have helped us build Baja California and the country. Every time I look at you, I feel affection and emotion that motivates me to continue putting my heart first every day," he said.

For his part, Baja California's Secretary of Health, Adrián Medina Amarillas, noted that one of the state's main health programs is the one that provides free cataract care, as it is one of the most common eye conditions in this population.
