Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Dadan Kusdiana assessed that the processing of used cooking oil (UCO) into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is in line with the government's priority program related to energy security.
"This is the President's (Prabowo Subianto) program, Astacita, which we must continue to implement. Energy security, and this includes not only energy security but also self-sufficiency. This will strengthen our independence," Dadan said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
Furthermore, the SAF innovation from PT Pertamina (Persero) is expected to be able to produce clean energy, reduce carbon emissions, and be environmentally friendly.
Pertamina stated that SAF is capable of reducing carbon emissions by up to 84 percent compared to fossil fuels.
This is one of the main attractions of the innovations developed at the Cilacap RU IV Refinery, as it offers a concrete opportunity for the aviation industry to reduce its carbon footprint without sacrificing safety and performance standards.
Technically, the bioavtur produced at RU IV Cilacap has met national quality standards through the Decree of the Director General of Oil and Gas Number 70 of 2025, as well as the international standards ASTM D1655 and Defstan 91-091.
