Tijuana, October 22.- The Baja California Health Secretariat maintains its " reproductive health action " program to offer free access to family planning methods and sexual health counseling available at health centers in the region.
The program aims to increase reproductive information and education, with the intention of promoting health care, family planning , and reducing unplanned pregnancies , according to the head of the health services jurisdiction, Remedios Lozada Romero.
Contraceptive methods
Lozada Romero indicated that there are currently 104 Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECPs) available, primarily due to misuse of the contraceptive.
"The pills are highly effective when taken between 72 and 102 hours after sexual intercourse, but their effectiveness decreases significantly after 96 hours. The sooner they are taken, the safer they are. There are two presentations: single-dose and two-dose, where the second dose must be taken 12 hours after the first.
For men , the no-scalpel vasectomy is offered as a contraceptive method , which consists of bilateral occlusion of the vas deferens, generating 99 percent effectiveness and is indicated for men of childbearing age, with an active sexual life, who desire a permanent method of contraception.
Similarly, the use of condoms is a method that, in addition to preventing conception, also prevents sexually transmitted infections.
The doctor added that all reproductive health services are provided by highly trained and certified personnel to treat patients regardless of age.
