Earlier on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the army targeted Abu Obeida in a joint operation with the Shin Bet security service, saying: "In a joint operation, the Shin Bet and the army targeted Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida."
For its part, the Hebrew Channel 12 reported earlier on Sunday: "Israel has indications that Abu Obeida has indeed been liquidated, but at this stage there is no final confirmation," while the Hebrew Channel 14 claimed that "Israel has confirmed the final liquidation of Abu Obeida during a raid by our forces in the Gaza Strip."
The channel reported that Abu Obeida was inside a building near a bakery in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City at the time of the attack. On Saturday, the official Israeli channel Kan reported that "the Israeli army attempted to assassinate Abu Obeida in an airstrike on the Gaza Strip."
