The PRI will ask the IEE to remove two councilors for allegedly favoring Morena.

Mexicali, December 14. Joel Abraham Blas Ramos, the representative of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) before the Baja California State Electoral Institute (IEEBC), announced that they will file a lawsuit to request the removal of institute councilors Viridiana Maciel Sánchez and Abel Muñoz Pedraza for "interfering" in a ruling that favored Morena.

The decision was made after the leak of a video conference from the Ieebc's Complaints and Reports Commission discussing a PRI complaint against Morena council members who were reelected and then retroactively received their social support benefits following the 2019 election.

In the video, Councilor Viridiana Maciel Sánchez pressured the then-head of the Technical Electoral Unit, Carla Cuevas, 14 times to change the ruling and have it ready before her resignation, which occurred in early December 2021.

The same counselor stated that she received the ruling digitally before the members of the Technical Unit, a situation that was questioned by Carla Cuevas given that it is an independent body.

“That’s why I’m a counselor,” Viridiana Sánchez responded with a laugh.
