The prosecutor's office is seeking the family's return of the cell phone of a slain Mexicali police officer.

Mexicali, July 21. The head of the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), Elena Andrade Ramírez, acknowledged that they do not have Subcommander Roberto Méndez Arreola 's cell phone and are seeking the return of it by his family, as the contents would be important to solving the crime.

The Municipal Police officer was gunned down on July 14 outside his home. In a video that captured the homicide, he was seen holding what appears to be a cell phone at the time of the shooting .

" We don't have the cell phone; we've already requested it from the family," declared the state attorney general, responding to statements made during Méndez Arreola's funeral by one of his relatives, who said that "there is nothing" on the phone.

"One of the individuals made a statement to the media that there was nothing on the phone that would be useful to the investigation. That information is solely for the Prosecutor's Office to evaluate and extract, if necessary, " he asserted.

Although he declined to provide details of the investigation, he stated that the hallmarks of criminal groups are evident, and "it was a planned crime, an organized crime, a crime that was already waiting for it."

He went out to make calls , obviously that phone was used, so the contents of the device are very important for the investigation," he insisted.

Andrade Ramírez explained that all lines of investigation are open, and that all municipal police officers are involved in the investigation, especially those closest to the fallen officer.
