Tijuana, March 11.- Tijuana will experience heavy rains and thunderstorms from today through Thursday, March 13, with accumulated rainfall of up to an inch, said José Luis Jiménez González, director of municipal Civil Protection, during a press conference.
Due to the severity of the weather conditions, the possible suspension of classes on Thursday or Friday is being considered, he added.
Forecast and affected areas
Rain began this morning and is expected to intensify, with the heaviest forecast between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., decreasing in intensity and maintaining scattered showers for tomorrow, Wednesday, March 12.
On Thursday, a third stream of water will enter the city around 4:00 a.m., which could increase the amount of precipitation. A 30% chance of drizzle is expected on Friday.
The State Civil Protection Council will meet today to decide whether to suspend classes on Thursday or Friday, and the final decision is expected to be made tomorrow. The measure will depend on the evolution of the rainfall and the level of risk in the city.
Recommendations and preventive measures
As part of the preventive measures, Jiménez commented that the Campo Reforma shelter, which is on pre-alert for the possible arrival of storms, will be opened. Additionally, the population is advised to drive with caution because the first rainfall has already caused some accidents due to wet pavement.
José Luis Jiménez also emphasized the importance of keeping home drains clean, as garbage is responsible for 70% of flooding problems in the city.
