The East Kalimantan Provincial Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service (DKP) stated that tiger prawns are still the mainstay commodity that dominates the regional fisheries export market.
Head of the East Kalimantan Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Agency, Irhan Hukmaidy, explained in Samarinda on Thursday that the market orientation of East Kalimantan's fishery products is no longer only to meet local and inter-island needs, but has succeeded in penetrating the international market with high-quality commodities.
"Our focus is on the export market. Among our leading commodities, the most dominant is tiger prawns, whose quality and price are based on US dollar standards," Irhan said.
Based on data collected by the East Kalimantan Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Department, tiger prawn exports have reached Rp164.4 billion out of a temporary total of Rp256 billion in fisheries exports as of July 2025.
