Tijuana, February 5. Given the intensity of the storm forecast to hit the region Tuesday night and early Tuesday morning, the Municipal Civil Protection Council has declared a state of alert in Tijuana.
An accumulated rainfall of between one and an inch and a half is expected, said Municipal Government Secretary Miguel Ángel Bujanda Ruiz, when announcing the alert.
Both the Tijuana Sports Complex and the SDIF Tijuana facilities—located on Insurgentes Boulevard—are set up as temporary shelters, and if necessary, other shelters will be activated, according to a press release regarding the agreements reached by the Civil Protection Board.
In turn, the head of Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Development, Juan Enrique Bautista, explained that hotspots and flood zones are being monitored, "which will allow us to respond to reports received, acting immediately and in coordination with the local authorities. We ask that citizens not litter, as this will be washed away by the rain tonight."
The City Council will be on constant alert, monitoring the development of these rains from the Municipal Emergency Operations Center and reinforcing its message to the community to stay home unless necessary.
