Trump: What's happening in Gaza is tragic and catastrophic, and the Russian strikes on Ukraine are disgusting.

Trump's position came in a statement to reporters at the White House in Washington, commenting on the tragic situation in the Palestinian Strip, which has been witnessing an ongoing Israeli war of extermination since October 7, 2023.

Trump noted that his country had provided $60 million in aid to Gaza two weeks ago, but added, " I don't see results in Gaza from the aid we've provided," adding, "I just wanted people in Gaza to have food, and we're helping financially in this situation."

The US president said he dislikes Canada's plans to recognize the state of Palestine at a UN meeting next September, but added that they do not undermine trade talks between the two countries.

Earlier Thursday, the White House announced that Trump's Special Representative for the Middle East Policy, Steve Witkoff, would hold field meetings in the Gaza Strip on Friday, and that a new plan for distributing food aid would be adopted after he submits his report to Trump.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said in a press briefing that Witkoff held a "productive" meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel on Thursday, discussing the latest developments in Gaza.

She added: "Tomorrow (Friday), Special Representative Witkoff and (US Ambassador to Israel Mike) Huckabee will travel to Gaza to inspect current distribution points, develop a plan for distributing additional food aid, and meet with the people of Gaza to gain a firsthand understanding of the deteriorating situation in the region."

"Special Representative Witkoff will brief the President (Trump) upon the conclusion of his visit on the final plan for distributing aid and food in the region," Levitt continued.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the death toll from famine and malnutrition had risen to 154 Palestinians, including 89 children, since the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023.

With American support, Israel is waging a genocidal war in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt the war. The genocide has left more than 207,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them women and children, and more than 9,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and a famine has claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.

Separately, Trump described the Russian airstrikes on Ukraine overnight Wednesday-Thursday, which killed at least 16 people, as "disgusting," and affirmed his intention to impose new sanctions on Russia.

"I think what they're doing (Russia) is disgusting," Trump told reporters, adding, "We're going to impose sanctions. I don't know if sanctions bother him (Russian President Vladimir Putin), but we're going to impose them."

The US President also announced that his special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, who is currently visiting Israel, will head to Russia once his mission in the region concludes.

Earlier Thursday, Ukrainian authorities said the death toll from a major Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv overnight had risen to 16, with more than 150 people injured, including 16 children.

Trump has given Russia until the end of next week to cease fighting in Ukraine, under threat of severe economic sanctions. The US president is also currently considering imposing "secondary" sanctions on Russia, which would effectively target countries that buy oil from Moscow.

Since February 24, 2022, Russia has launched a military attack on its neighbor, Ukraine, and has made ending the offensive conditional on Kyiv abandoning its membership in Western military entities. Kyiv considers this "interference" in its affairs.
