Mexico City. A 43-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man remained for approximately 30 hours in a desert area of La Rumorosa after being tricked and abandoned by a supposed guide who was supposed to take them across to the United States.
The two Mexican migrants were rescued by the National Migration Institute (INM) after requesting assistance through 911.
The Baja California State Command, Control, Communications and Computing Center (C-4) responded to a phone call requesting assistance, as they were lost in the mountainous area.
Members of the INM's Beta Tecate Group received the information and responded to the call, preparing their rescue team to begin the search.
After several hours, migrant protection, rescue, and assistance specialists found the two people sheltering under a rock. Grupo Beta agents checked their health and immediately hydrated them with water and oral saline.
Explanation
During the interview, the rescued individuals stated that the supposed guide who would take them across to the United States had gotten them off the vehicle at 8:00 a.m. on September 7 at kilometer 56.
From there, he only told them that they had to walk about 10 minutes along the route he indicated and they would be in U.S. territory, however, they were deceived.
