University of Indonesia (UI) student Athyana Kamila Syahindra won a gold medal in the black belt individual poomsae category for 18–30 years old at the 2025 MBW International Taekwondo Championship in Malaysia.
"The most memorable experience was seeing the red and white flag and the FHUI flag being raised by the coach in the stands. That moment made me even more motivated to perform at my best and bring honor to UI," said Athyana, a 2023 student from the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, in Depok on Thursday.
The MBW International Taekwondo Championship is a prestigious competition that brings together athletes from 14 countries.
This year, the competition attracted approximately 280 athletes from across Indonesia. This championship provided an opportunity for athletes to showcase their talents and introduce them to high-standard international competition.
During the match, Athyana admitted to feeling nervous before taking to the center stage of the stadium. The poomsae category demands a series of precise attack and defense techniques, high self-control, and extra body balance.
"Even the slightest inaccuracy in my movements can reduce my points, so I have to focus fully on every detail of my movements," he said.
However, thanks to the training and hard work that she did, Athyana managed to win a Gold Medal in the event.
One month before the championship, he extended his training, and a week before departure, he underwent a super-intensive program with BSO Recht Taekwondo FHUI coach, Sabeum Reyhan Sebastian. The training included muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, and performance simulations in front of an audience.
